What is 'Take on your own Memory Walk?'
'Take on your own' is suited to you if you wish to do a Memory Walk but either can't make one of our organised walks, there isn’t one in your area, or you want to do a Memory Walk in an area that’s special to you.
We are asking people to take on your own Memory Walk on World Alzheimer’s Day, which is the 21st September, or any other day that suits you!
How much does it cost?
We want to make our Memory Walks as accessible as possible, so it’s free to sign up!
However, Memory Walk is a fundraising event, and we want to try and raise as much money as possible to help those affected by dementia. That’s why, when you sign up, you will receive a fundraising pack and a target that we encourage you to work towards.
How many people can take part?
We recommend keeping your Memory Walk small, with just friends, family or colleagues so that it is nice and easy to organise. If you want to be part of a larger event, we recommend attending one of our existing walks.
Where can I take on the walk?
You can take on your walk anywhere! Whether that’s your local park, nearby pavements, or along the beach with family or four-legged friends. Choose somewhere special to you or a loved one and know that every step you take brings us closer to a future where no one has to face dementia alone.
How long should the walk be?
Your walk can be as long or as short as you’d like.
This could be laps around your local park, along the seafront, or somewhere further afield in a place that is special to you.
Whatever you choose, and no matter how far you go, you’ll be making a difference and providing hope to those affected by dementia.
Can children get involved?
If you are aged between 16-17 on the day of the event, please seek permission of your legal parent or guardian before registering. You can then sign up online using the standard registration form.
Children under 16 can take part if they are always accompanied by a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must sign up as normal using the registration form.
Can I buy Memory Walk merchandise?
Of course! You can visit our online shop here: Memory Walk merchandise - Alzheimer's Society
What is the fundraising target and deadline?
All our Memory Walks have a fundraising target of £175, and we encourage you to try and reach this, but you can still participate if you don't hit the full fundraising amount.
Please ensure that you send us your sponsorship by 2 months after your event, so that it can be included in the grand total.
You will receive your free medal when you hit your £175 fundraising target before the end of October 2026.
Team fundraising
Please note as a team you must reach a combined team target (£175 x number of team members) to all receive a free medal.
Alternatively, you can purchase t-shirts, medals and other Memory Walk merchandise on our shop here: Memory Walk merchandise - Alzheimer's Society
Where do I send my sponsorship and donations?
Thank you for collecting sponsorship or for looking how to send a donation. Without your fundraising, we couldn't help people living with dementia through support services and ongoing research.
For security reasons, we ask that you please don't send cash. Instead, you can pay cash donations into your account then donate in one of the following ways:
I'm having issues with my JustGiving page. Can you help?
We are sorry to hear that you’re having problems with your fundraising page. Unfortunately, we are unable to help with any JustGiving-related issues, as they are a separate organisation.
Please visit their support page where they have lots of helpful information or you can submit a request through their website.
I've reached my fundraising target. What do I do now?
As soon as you reach the £175 target, set a new one! You can increase your JustGiving target easily following these simple steps.
Thank you so much for all your amazing fundraising so far. Your walk is helping to fund essential support and ground-breaking research into dementia care and treatments.
For every additional:
£15 you raise - this could turn four ordinary citizens into superhero Dementia Friends
£50 you raise - this could fund 8 phone calls to a Dementia Advisor
£200 you raise - this could fund a Community Dementia Advisor for the day
£300 you raise - this could fund one Singing for the Brain session
How do I send you the money I raise on my JustGiving page?
When you fundraise via JustGiving, all the money you raise will come to Alzheimer’s Society automatically and there is nothing you need to do!
How do I register?
It's easy to take part and you can sign up here: Take on your own Memory Walk 2026 | Alzheimers Society
Note: only the organiser of the Memory Walk needs to register with us, and only the organiser of the event will receive a free t-shirt.
For additional team members, you can purchase t-shirts and other Memory Walk merchandise on our shop: Memory Walk merchandise - Alzheimer's Society!
After I have registered, when will I receive my fundraising pack?
We aim to start sending out both digital and postal fundraising packs from early Summer onwards.
We will update this webpage with more details nearer the time!
